Robert W. van ZwietenChairman
Mr. van Zwieten is a senior leader and strategist with 30 years of experience in global financial markets. He is passionate about advancing private capital investments that generate both financial returns as well as sustainable development. He has conducted business and led teams, transactions and projects in the United States, Europe and Asia, and lived and worked in all three for extended periods. His experience spans Chairman, President, CEO, COO, CAO, CFO, CIO, MD and global and regional treasurer roles, straddling private, public and non-profit sectors.
From 2013 through 2017 Robert served as the President and CEO of the Emerging Market Private Equity Association (EMPEA), the global industry association for private capital in emerging markets, based in Washington DC. EMPEA has over 300 member firms compromising institutional investors, fund managers and industry advisors, which collectively manage more than US$ 5 trillion in assets. Immediately prior to this, from 2009 through 2012, Mr. van Zwieten served as the Asian Development Bank’s Director of the Private Sector Capital Markets Division, based in Manila, Philippines. In this role, he was responsible for originating and structuring US$ 2.5 billion in debt and equity transactions across 40 emerging Asian markets.
Mr. van Zwieten earned his MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, holds JD and MA degrees from Leiden University in the Netherlands, and an LL.M. degree from Columbia University School of Law. He is active in a number of non-profit organizations. He is married with five children and lives in Manila, Philippines.
Oknha Sem SithisakManaging Director
‘Oknha’ Sem Sithisak is a Cambodian businessman with dual citizenship in both Cambodia and France.
He has several businesses across the Kingdom of Cambodia. He has the sole license issued by the Royal Government of Cambodia to export coconut charcoal from Cambodia. Mr. Sem also helped to pave the way for the Cambodian cassava industry, receiving the first license to export dried cassava to China.
In additional to his numerous business interests, Mr. Sem serves as an advisor to the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Royal Cambodia Armed Forces. He was also awarded the honorary title of "Oknha", which is a title bestowed by the His Royal Majesty the King of Cambodia to those who make significant contributions to Cambodian society.
Mr. Sem holds a Bachelor’s degree from Bakersfield College as well as a degree in Business Administration from the University of Cambodia. He is fluent in Khmer, English, and French. He is married with two children and lives in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
David CliftonManaging Director
Mr. Clifton has 15 years of business and operating experience in emerging markets. In 2005 he and founded Pure Biofuels SAC, a US$ 165 million biofuel and port development venture in Peru with annual revenues now exceeding over US$ 200 million. During the financial crisis in 2008 Mr. Clifton founded Stevia One, what is today the single largest stevia plantation in the world, with over US$ 45 million invested to date. In 2014 he moved to Cambodia to pursue business opportunities in one of the world's fastest growing economies
Prior to his work in emerging markets Mr. Clifton worked in venture capital and investment banking in Vancouver, Canada. He is married with two children and lives in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
